Make Your Blog Titles SEO Friendly

You blog post's title is what your website's visitors are reading at first to get an idea about written in the post. You may have written a great post but if the title fails to complement it; visitors will go for the cross button on the browser and may not return to your blog. The same principle goes for the search engine crawler, who comes to your site and reads the tittle from the codes.

If the title of your blog's pages' are not well written and well placed in the HTML of your site, then search engines like Google will penalize your site. As far as on-page Search Engine Optimization is concerned, you do not want to give leave any unwanted flaws and gaps that might reduce your position on search engine results page (SERP). So, to avoid that you want to make sure your titles inside <title> tag of the blog's template/HTML code is properly contracted.

The text you see on the tab or window of your browser when you visit a webpage; it is the page title of the web page. They are also used in the search results as the links on top of each result colored in blue to the each result that shows up on the search engine results page (SERP). Page title is the most essential element in your blog that helps you to rank to in search engines and also set you apart from the competitors.

Now; usually the default setting of blogger blogs for page title are not SEO friendly. This is what a typical a post of a blogger blog 's will look like in search engines.

As you see because of your blog's title the post's title is not showing entirely. Though Google limits SERP titles by pixel width, not by character count but on average Google can only show 50-65 characters as title. Check out how Google is showing your blog in the search result by simply searching "site:URL of your site (i.e.. site:www.techinfoknow.com).
You might say this is not a problem, but think again. It is more likely that people will search for a content that they like not you blog. Also what is the point in spending time on writing a great post and its great title is the search engine cannot show it fully and searcher can read it. A bad title in SERP will not help you to get visitors from organic search. Chances are you post in not coming in the search result of the keyword/topic that you have write the post for.

So you need the blog's posts are shown in the search result in Google is to look like this;

As you see the post's title showing properly in front of the blog's title and the long title is showing fully as possible without the blog's title. Blog's title is not important as the post's tittle as that is what the searcher is looking for.

So we established that you want your blog's page tittle to be;

  4. Adding few extra things. Like: showing cool title for label pages (Articles for Blogger); it will show "page on found" or "404 error" in an error page.

To achieve this follow these instructions below;
  1. Go to your blog's Dashboard > Templates.
  2. Click "Edit HTML".
  3. Now look for <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title> (in a default blogger template) or <title>. If you are using a custom template then you might find that quite a few times with conditional tags. Select it whole.
  4. Replace it/them with the following code. (see the table below to understand and edit the code properly)
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'> <title><data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/></title> <b:else/> <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "index"'> <b:if cond='data:blog.url != data:blog.homepageUrl'> <title><data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/></title> <b:else/> <title><data:blog.pageTitle/> | Use Few words to Describe Your Blog's nature or content</title> </b:if> </b:if> <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "static_page"'> <title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title> </b:if> <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "archive"'> <title>Posts in:<data:blog.pageName/> | <data:blog.title/></title> </b:if> <b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "error_page"'> <title>Page Not Found | <data:blog.pageTitle/></title> </b:if> </b:if>
